Last night, during the “Travel Writer Meet-Up of the Year,” lots of people asked about Viscape’s “Be a Travel Writer Contest.”  They wanted to know:  What is the prize? When is the contest over? What does it take to win? Where do I enter? What should I write about?

Well, there were just too many questions to answer, so, here are more travel writer contest details.  The contest is over when Viscape reaches 1,000 reviews. Currently, Viscape has over 500 destination reviews that are eligible.  The prize?  A travel writing experience in either Belize or Key West!  If you want to win this writing contest: 1.) be creative, 2.) be authentic, 3.) try to incorporate videos or photographs (after all Viscape is a visual escape!), 4.) write about a place you know.  You can publish your review right on Viscape’s site.  Just, sign-up,  create a profile, pick a destination, click review it and then start writing.

The editors over at Viscape are always on the look-out for creative, interesting reviews that give insight into a destinations’ culture/people/ambiance.  We came across this review of Venice, Italy written by Viscape member lwiedemer and we just had to share it with you!

A Bird in the Hand by lwiedemer

Venice, Italy

There we were, fresh off the plane, seriously sleep deprived, wide eyed, slack jawed and doing a 360° in St. Marks Square when we were approached by a handsome Italian man. In charmingly broken English he offered to drive us to the Isle of Murano at no charge to see a glass blowing demonstration. The next thing we knew, we were speeding along in a private boat with a strange man in a foreign country. We exchanged glances, mutely asking each other “are we being kidnapped?”. But no, we were soon deposited safely in Murano without incident. Following the demonstration we were ushered upstairs to shop. The glass was exquisite and unfortunately the prices matched. However, downstairs in the bargain shop, I found a small hand blown glass bird. Happy with my new treasure encased in yards of bubble wrap we hopped a water bus to Venice and a nap.

Check out the amazing photographs that lwiedemer posted with her review!
