Vacation Homes are a Big Business!

Over here at Viscape we 100% agree with Michael Arrington over at TechCrunch: vacation homes are a big business. Yes, there are lots of great sites to find the perfect, affordable vacation home rental (ah…hem – VISCAPE). Otalo, a new site that brands itself as the “vacation home search engine”, is just one of several sites out there entering into the billion dollar vacation home industry. Like many other sites, Otalo aggregates the basic listing information from multiple vacation rental home sources. And we think Otalo does it best. Have you seen their site design? Incredible. The only problem with it: Viscape’s vacation home rental listings have yet to be included in the search index — which is unfortunate to our thousands and thousands of listers!
With any new site(as Viscape has learned), the hard part – and the major challenge in Otalo’s future -will be attracting a large volume of visitors. To date, a few giants in the vacation home industry have monopolized the search engines. But thanks to the many new start-ups entering the space (again…ah…hem – VISCAPE), traditional sites will be forced to adopt new practices (incorporate social media, reviews and trip planning) or will drown in the sea of Web 2.0!
