Make Money Honey!  Now is the time to find the perfect renter.

Attention Washington, DC homeowners!  Here’s an important date to put on your calendar: January 20.  The administration is changing hands, and the 20th is inauguration day.  Regardless of your political preferences, your pocket book could be in better shape if you consider renting your house, condo or townhouse short term for the inauguration.  Folks are coming in from all over the country -and they all need somewhere to stay.  But how can you find the perfect renter?  Where can you market your property with maximum exposure?  How can you make money honey?

This could be your place!  This could be your ticket to padding your wallet after the holidays! 
List your home as a short term rental option for the inauguation and beyond!

To maximize your exposure and results, it behooves owners to:

1)      Advertise your property on lots of sites and post as many pictures as possible.  Better yet, give a video tour (Hint: Listing is free on Viscape!).  Check this example out: Red Ape Retreat

2)      Let the potential renter get to know you a bit.

3)      Be transparent and up front in your description and minimum length of stay.

4)      Always highlight valuable amenities of the property.

5)      Point out where it is in relation to  public transportation

6)      Be up front about the condition – if the place is in less than perfect condition, let the renter know what to expect; if you are a smoker or have animals, disclose this.

7)      Think along the lines of hotel-like hospitality and make sure the sheets are crisp and clean, include fresh clean towels and other conveniences;  hire a cleaning service before and after; your idea of cleanliness can be different from your guest’s.

8)      Include instructions for things your guest may not know; operating a garage door, the thermostat, different house locks, etc.

9)      The little things matter, so be a good landlord and have gift packet or welcome packet.  Put a few things in the fridge.

10)   Pleasant smell – no animal odors; if you can’t get rid of the animal scents, let your guest know .
