Politics of Vacationing – Campaigning in Swing States
Sure, you’re familiar with swing sets (think play ground), swing dancing, and the movie Swingers. But 2008 is all about the swing states-Colorado, Florida, and Virginia to name a few-and you can be sure that the entire US will be watching these states closely on election night. We at Viscape are watching these states as well, but with one eye focused on politics and the other on travel and vacationing. Just like McCain and Obama are trying to decide how to spend their travel time in the swing states, would be vacationers must weigh their options before committing their hard-earned money and time to a vacation destination.
With swing states in mind, Viscape has suggestions for the politically-minded traveler. If you’re considering a fall getaway, why not hit up a swing state? See the best that North Carolina or Florida has to offer, and do some campaigning at the same time. We like to call this multi-tasking or better yet multi-purpose travel! For instance, those 16 Obama bumper stickers you have plastered to your Toyota Prius might be enough to convince one voter in the beautiful Outer Banks to vote blue-and that one vote, yes, one vote this year, could turn the entire election. Or, better yet, have the entire family sport those all too famous Sarah Palin glasses as you tour the Magic Kingdom in Orlando and you subliminally might encourage someone to vote for the McCain ticket in November. Get exercise as you rock the vote. Hand-out voter registration forms as you hike the trails in Aspen and who knows, you might just inspire someone to head to the polls on Election Day!
