Viscape Artist of the Week
Filed Under: Travel Tips, Viscape Artist of the Week
She loves traveling and writing. She shares her adventures and experiences with witty stories and spontaneous photographs. She believes in the power of community and she believes in connecting with others who share her passions! So, when I first met LNathan in Viscape’s diving and snorkeling discussion group, my very first thought was, “Viscape Artist of the Week? Naturally!”
To get to know LNathan a little better, I subjected her to a few crazy questions:
Would you be likely to survive alone on a deserted island?
I hope so! No, seriously, I’d like to think I could figure out how to subsist on sand and seawater.
In your opinion, what are the Seven Wonders of the World?
I don’t know if these qualify as “Wonders of the World” in the classic sense of the phrase, but in my book, they’d be: the Great Barrier Reef, gelato in Florence, the Berlin Wall, sunsets in Prague, Alaska’s glaciers, all of the Gaudi architecture in Barcelona and the sand in the Turks and Caicos.
Which piece of land would you wish to have preserved forever?
Does it have to be land? I’m inclined to say Alaska’s glaciers because they’re so breathtaking.
Where is your favorite place on earth? Why?
Prague. The scenery is beautiful; the architecture is exquisite, and there’s so much history there. It’s also got a great nightlife. After spending a week there, I still feel like I haven’t seen or done nearly everything.
Would you rather live in the beach or mountains?
The beach!
What temptation do you try to resist?
There are a few of those! Italian gelato, French pastries, dropping everything and traveling through South America for a couple of months…
Who has inspired you as a mentor and why?
That’s a hard question, but only because it’s hard to choose just one person. Most recently, I’d say it was the writers I worked with in graduate school-Sven Birkerts, Susan Cheever, Phillip Lopate. They’re such talented writers, and yet they’re so compassionate, generous, and interested in seeing their mentees grow and thrive. No matter what field you’re in, I think that’s everything you could want from a mentor.
Congratulations, LNathan. Your Viscape t-shirt is in the mail. We look forward to more of your travel stories and photographs!
